The Swiss pianist and conductor Joseph Sieber is Assistant Conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta and Artistic Director of the outreach initiative Simple Symphony.
Educated in Switzerland, England and the United States, he received the highest distinction for his diploma concert with the BBC Philharmonic and was a Conducting Fellow of both the Lucerne Festival Academy and the Cabrillo Festival in California. Described as a “bridge-builder to a new audience for classical music” (Luzerner Zeitung), he developed the Central Switzerland Youth Symphony Orchestra (ZJSO), which he founded, into one of the most versatile and widely recognised youth ensembles in Switzerland during the seven years of his leadership. As a pioneer in the field of young talent development and innovative orchestral productions, he has received numerous awards, including the European Music Mediation Prize.
“But the real discovery of the evening is the young man on the conductor’s podium, Joseph Sieber. The way this jack-of-all-trades handles the wonderful music with his conducting skills, his artistic flair and his charming charisma is simply marvellous.”
